POSITION SUMMARY

Join an actuarial team directly supporting Aetna's Behavioral Health team. Working on the behavioral health team will provide exposure to many diverse areas including Federal Mental Health Parity, reserving, pricing, and product development.

The Data Analyst will support actuarial functions by applying quantitative skills and analytical methods. Take full ownership of assigned projects and potentially act as project team lead. Leverage more advanced technical skills to achieve business solutions and demonstrate solid understanding of business and product processes. Complete tasks independently with some direction from supervisor.

The main priority of this position would be understanding and modeling for Mental Health Parity. The Analyst would need to be flexible to changing laws and regulations and play a large role in making sure that all of Aetna's health plans are in compliance with Federal Mental Health Parity. There is also a need to respond to objections from the department of insurance.

The Analyst would also have responsibilities with pricing and reserving within behavioral health. The integration with Humana will also present new challenges and opportunities for the team.

    Product & Business Knowledge:

  • Demonstrate understanding of assumptions and the process used to develop them. Incorporate understanding of data sources in the recommendation and implementation of appropriate business decisions.

  • Demonstrate understanding of regulatory compliance issues.

    Risk Analysis & Management:

  • Work with supervisor to understand the nature of specific risks. Analyze data and present preliminary conclusions to supervisors.

  • Compile and analyze filing data. Prepare and submit necessary exhibits for regulatory filings.

  • Provide technical support in the analysis of reserve levels.

  • Pricing, Trend & Benefit Design- Develop and recommend pricing and trend for product and/or services. - Understand and communicate financial impact to supervisor.

    Technical Proficiency:

  • Use of Technology- Develop creative technical solutions to a variety of problems. Demonstrate proficiency with spreadsheets and familiarity with database and web-based applications.

  • Development & Implementation- Develop and implement appropriate tools and models.

  • Maintenance & Enhancements- Recommend implement and oversee maintenance development of enhancements to processes, tools and systems. Make suggestions to maximize efficiency.

  • Business Specifications- Develop and finalize business requirements and/or specifications for processes, tools, and systems

  • Testing- Test changes to processes, tools, and systems.

    Communication, Collaboration & Constituents:

  • Verbal & Written Communication- Respond to routine inquiries and provide support in responding to moderately complex constituent inquiries in an accurate and timely manner. Create and maintain accurate documentation and help develop training materials for tools and processes.

  • Interaction with Constituents- Under supervisor direction, collaborate with internal constituents.

    BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE desired:

    Bachelors degree (Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Finance or related degree is preferred)

    Minimum 1+ years previous work experience in an analytical or actuarial capacity

    Experience with Excel and Access/SQL required

    EDUCATION

    The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
