POSITION SUMMARY

Aetna is hiring an Actuarial Director to support our Medicare business. This opportunity will perform pricing and analytic work in support of a department mission to protect Aetna's financial integrity, collaborate with business partners to provide sound risk management advice, anticipate and recognize matters that materially affect financial results, and make sound, unbiased recommendations on these matters.

Fundamental Components:

Product & Business Knowledge: - Assumptions & Data Sources- Demonstrate understanding of existing data sources and translate into appropriate assumptions and functional business information. Identify/suggest alternatives/improvements. - Programs, Policies & Processes- Demonstrate understanding of intradepartmental products, programs, processes and policies; identify and research problems and issues. - Regulatory Issues- Demonstrate understanding of regulatory compliance issues. Risk Analysis & Management: - Risk Assessment- Work with supervisor to understand the nature of specific risks. Share results of analysis with management. - Rate Filing- Compile and analyze filing data. Prepare and submit necessary exhibits for regulatory filings. - Reserve Analysis- Analyze claim data and monitor reserve levels for appropriateness. Demonstrate understanding of actuarial reserving techniques and issues. - Planning & Forecasting- Provide technical support and analysis for planning, forecasting and reporting process. - Make recommendations to supervisor. - Pricing, Trend & Benefit Design- Develop and recommend pricing and trend for product and/or services. - Understand and communicate financial impact to supervisor. Technical Proficiency: - Use of Technology- Develop creative technical solutions to a variety of problems. Demonstrate spreadsheeting proficiency and familiarity with database and web-based applications. - Development & Implementation- Develop and implement appropriate tools and models. - Maintenance & Enhancements- Recommend, implement and oversee maintenance development of enhancements to processes, tools and systems. Make suggestions to maximize efficiency. - Business Specifications- Develop and finalize business requirements and/or specifications for processes, tools, and systems. - Testing- Test and oversee changes to processes, tools and systems. - Interaction with Constituents- With limited direction, collaborate with internal and external constituents. Communication, Collaboration & Consultation: - Verbal & Written Communication- Respond to complex inquiries from internal constituents. Create and maintain accurate documentation and develop training materials for tools and processes. - Interaction with Constituents- With limited direction, collaborate with internal and external constituents.

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE desired:

Bachelor's degree along w/7+ years related work experience

Minimum ASA, FSA preferred- MAAA required

Prior Medicare Part C experience is preferred

Strong communication skills

EDUCATION

The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION

Primary responsibilities include medical pricing, forecasting, bid filing preparation, strategic and product design support for Individual Medicare Advantage. Secondary responsibilities include earnings analysis, IBNR reserve work, and various actuarial expert roles such as methodology and assumption development. The best candidate will have strong technical skills but also creativity and be a good collaborator and communicator. Plenty of direct interaction with market leadership (General Manager, CFO, etc.).
