The Senior Underwriting Consultant will support large plan sponsors in the National Accounts organization. This position could support our Renewal and/or New Business teams. The position will independently perform accurate analysis and risk assessment to produce sound financial responses/products in a timely manner. The person will provide superior service in support of writing new and/or renewing Aetna's Medical business and will include interaction not only with internal constituents but also directly with plan sponsors, brokers, and consultants.

Fundamental Components:· Independently assess risk factors, price appropriately for the risk, and will establish plan designs that position Aetna competitively. · Present the application of underwriting concepts and will be held accountable for decisions made on their accounts. · Make recommendations for alternate plan sponsor solutions. · Be knowledge and understanding of self-funded and fully insured arrangements is required.· Essential Functions:o Handle casework and issues autonomously using knowledge of Aetna's products/services and underwriting protocols. o Completes accurate financial analysis and risk assessment to evaluate specific strategic options and opportunities independently. Recommend and suggest alternatives. o Focus on quality while completing internal processes efficiently. o Manage multiple tasks and effectively prioritizes work.o Develop and deliver financial exhibits and documentation.o Independently negotiates and fully explains rate development, pricing components and application of underwriting policies while remaining conscious of financial objectives.o Proactively communicates technical concepts to internal and external constituents.o Collaborate and share information cross-functionally.o Mentors and coach others BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE desired:· Minimum 5-7 years Medical Underwriting experience· Must have strong math aptitude· Must demonstrate analytical, critical thinking, and decision making skills· Proven ability to build strong cross-functional relationships with sales force and other internal organizations.· Knowledge and understanding of self-funded and fully insured arrangements is required.· Proven ability to facilitate and negotiate using tact and diplomacy. · Experience with Microsoft Excel required. · Experience using Microsoft Office programs is required.


The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree.
