Aetna is seeking a Mainframe Engineer Advisor to design reliable, efficient and cost effective mainframe environments. Candidate will be part of the team responsible for providing capacity requirements to applications, especially during open enrollment and high-volume business periods. Candidate will be responsible to review hardware and software options to reduce resource requirements and decrease elapsed time

Fundamental Components:

Possession of the following skills with increased probability of consideration with greater knowledge and experience: Design mainframe configurations including mainframe boxes, coupling facility boxes, connections between boxes Design should be flexible and cost effective Research and implement latest hardware and software options to improve availability and performance Research and implement changes to decrease CPU consumption of existing environments Collaborate with technology teams to design environments and applications to improve flexibility Support Capacity Planning function to avoid issues during peak times such as month-end, open enrollment, yearly peaks Working knowledge of mainframe performance tools (Omegamon, etc.) and strong APM software experience Experience working with data, formulas and statistical forecasting using Microsoft Excel Ability to author and present infrastructure plans to management and technical staff Ability to lead/mentor junior engineers Assist mainframe development teams with application troubleshooting Work closely with vendors to improve benefits to Aetnas hardware environments and software products, and, participate in product evaluations


10+ years experience building and managing complex products/solutions. Experience with performance profiling or diagnostic tools. Demonstrates broad knowledge of multiple infrastructure disciplines. Expert level experience with hardware architectures and z/OS. Expert level with mainframe performance and CPU/memory capacity topics.


The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
