Aetna s National Accounts Group Insurance area is seeking an experienced Group Insurance Underwriter for an Underwriting Consultant role. In the role the candidate will performs accurate analysis and risk assessment to produce sound financial responses/products in a timely manner. Provide superior service in support of writing Aetna's Group Insurance National Accounts new business.
Fundamental Components:· Handles complex casework and issues using solid knowledge of Aetna's products/services and underwriting protocols. · Completes accurate financial analysis and risk assessment to evaluate specific strategic options and opportunities. · Makes recommendations and suggests alternatives.· Focuses on quality while completing internal processes efficiently. · Manages multiple tasks and effectively prioritizes work.· Participates in project work groups including process improvement initiatives.· Develops financial exhibits and documentation that enhance delivery. · Negotiates and fully explains rate development, pricing components and application of underwriting policies while remaining conscious of financial objectives.· Communicates technical concepts to internal and external constituents.· Collaborates and shares information cross-functionally. · Interacts with all constituents using effective oral and written communication skills.· Mentors less experienced underwriters in the development of their technical skills.· Some travel may be required in the role. BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE desired:· 3 – 5 years of group or medical underwriting experience required (medical, STD, LTC, FMLA, Life)· 3-5 years of pricing experience via manual pricing, experienced rating, alternate rating and funding methodologies.· Proven ability to anticipate customer needs and negotiate with customers using tact and diplomacy.· Strong analytical and math aptitude. · Excellent verbal and written communication skills. · Ability to establish strong cross-functional relationships with sales force and other internal constituents.
The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
