We are currently seeking Underwriting Consultants to support Aetna's ability to achieve its financial and strategic goals through effective underwriting. Underwriting support primarily includes identifying, evaluating, and managing risk in order to maximize revenue, membership and earnings.
· Performs accurate analysis and risk assessment to produce sound financial responses/products in a timely manner. · Provides superior service in support of writing and/or renewing Aetna's Medical business. · Essential Functions: o Handles casework and issues using knowledge of Aetna's products/services and underwriting protocols. o Completes accurate financial analysis and risk assessment to evaluate specific strategic options and opportunities. o Makes recommendations and suggests alternatives. o Focuses on quality while completing internal processes efficiently. o Manages multiple tasks and effectively prioritizes work. o Develops financial exhibits and documentation that enhance delivery. o Negotiates and fully explains rate development, pricing components and application of underwriting policies while remaining conscious of financial objectives. o Communicates technical concepts to internal and external constituents. o Collaborates and shares information cross-functionally. BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE desired:· 1-3 years of underwriting experience. Medical underwriting strongly preferred· Strong math aptitude· Analytical, critical thinking, and decision making skills · Experience with Microsoft Excel strongly preferred· Experience using Microsoft Office programs is required· Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with customers, brokers and consultants. · Must have a strong ability to anticipate customer needs and negotiate with customers using tact and diplomacy. · Ability to work well in a fast-paced, team environment and be adaptable to changing priorities. EDUCATION
The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Candidate must be located near an Aetna office; Hartford, CT, Sugarland, TX, Blue Bell, PA). Option for telework will be evaluated after a certain period of employment.
