This Underwriting Liaison position aligned will focus on underwriting needs to support and promote the growth of value based contracts in plan sponsors portfolio of medical plan offerings. This position will not be segment based. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to tailor certain job functions to their areas of interest and specific skills.

Fundamental Components:

This Underwriting Liaison position is being redesigned in order to provide guidance and support to all underwriting business segments with the growth of value based contracts in plan sponsors portfolio of medical plan offerings. Your business matrix partners include the VBC contract and actuarial teams, core and segment underwriting, core and segment actuarial, network, legal and product. This position will provide the motivated associate with exposure to many areas and functions across the entire enterprise. Based upon constituent feedback, you will develop and deliver just in time training to support the continued education of the internal underwriting segment. Using your excellent communication and presentation skills you will present new pricing concepts directly to plan sponsors, and consultants/brokers as requested by our field sales partners. This is a support position and as such, will not be assigned a specific case load. This is a non-supervisory position and will support all funding arrangements and both new and existing business.


  • 4+ years of Underwriting experience

    *Solid experience with/maintaining/updating/creating Underwriting Tools and Efficiency Models.

  • Previous experience with multiple funding arrangements, plus new and existing Underwriting processes.

    *Excellent written and oral communication skills, business acumen

  • Able to support cross function team

    *Creative problem solving skills required

    *Experience presenting financial information to diverse audiences (internal and external constituents)

  • Strong negotiation skills


    The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.


  • Underwriting/Policy guidelines development/4-6 Years

  • Actuarial/Underwriting Case Work/1-3 Years

  • Leadership/Lead significant enterprise-wide initiative/4-6 Years

    • Underwriting/Pricing methodologies (manual, experience, blended, alternate, etc.)/4-6 Years


  • Office based position, flex schedule once training period is completed.

  • The ideal candidate will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and provide superior customer service to both internal and external constituents. Working in a matrixed environment across multiple functions, the ideal candidate must thrive in a constantly evolving environment with competing priorities and deadlines.

    In addition, extensive pricing experience via all types of pricing methodologies (manual, experience, blended, alternate, etc.), funding and network arrangements with knowledge of the Aetna systems supporting those products and rating methodologies is required. A minimum of 4-6 years of pricing experience is preferred along with training and project management experience. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to tailor certain job functions to their areas of interest and specific skills.
