Aetna Senior Monitoring Engineer in Denver, Colorado

The Sr. Monitoring Engineer will be integral in providing transparency of an ecosystem and allowing the company to understand real-time user experience of an application. The role also provides support employees the ability to proactively identify issues and resolve them prior to resulting in customer impact, while also assisting users with the ability to quickly identify and troubleshoot issues when they do occur.
Create end-to-end user experience monitoring solutions using automation skills, as well as enterprise tools such as New Relic, AppDynamics, AWS CloudWatch and Splunk
Create multi-tiered yet intuitive enterprise dashboards that visualize a current state of user experience
Provide engineering and operational support for the monitoring tools and enterprise dashboards
Create solutions to fill gaps in the monitoring and alerting space
Provide training for junior staff on existing and new technologies
Develop, document, and socialize monitoring and alerting standards and best practices
Test and validate monitors are producing accurate results
Provide views into overall health of applications and systems
Work with Product and Engineering teams to get ahead of new capabilities for an application/ecosystem
Continuously assess and improve processes within your scope, including the impact on upstream and downstream groups, and recommend improvements in processes you and the team interact with
Demonstrate an entrepreneurial perspective (envisioning new and innovative ideas and approaches and taking them to fruition)
5 or more years in a software development, scripting and/or infrastructure role
3 or more years of hands-on experience with enterprise monitoring technologies such as Splunk, AWS CloudWatch and application performance monitors (New Relic, AppDynamics)
3 or more years providing monitoring and alerting services in cloud environments
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of AWS, Splunk, ELK, and scripting languages such as Python
Knowledge of Agile (SAFe) methodologies
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to conduct complex analysis and present data in a meaningful way
Ability to self-organize with attention to detail
Open minded, flexible, and willing to listen for other peoples opinions
Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate over the phone with a variety of individuals at all technical levels are required
The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
