Our Medicare Supplement team is looking for dynamic underwriting leader who ispassionate about developing programs and teams. This opportunity is a highlyvisible position within the Medicare Supplement business. The position willafford the candidate the opportunity to build upon our current Underwritingstrategy and work across the various departments to understand the impact tothe organization. The underwriting management position allows for career growthwithin the business and the AETNA/CVS health organization. S/He will manage anunderwriting staff performing new business underwriting functions in support ofour underwriting strategy and key performance metrics. The Underwriting Managerhas responsibility for the growth and development of our current underwritingstaff.

FundamentalComponents:

-Leads team to achieve department specific goals througharticulation and application of business strategy, initiatives, and underwritingpolicies.

-Manages workflow within unit and directs changingpriorities. Ensures that timely actions and deliverables are met, and teammembers have the information to do their jobs.

-Escalates underwriting exceptions and financial variancesto senior management balancing membership, revenue growth and profitabilitytargets. Engages in underwriting decisions with significant benefitimplications.

-Articulates company services, product standards,underwriting policies and new initiatives to sales, customers, brokers &consultants.

-Leads process improvement initiatives to improveproductivity, accuracy, and/or customer service and influences tooldevelopment. Takes accountability for driving solutions to completion.

-Responsible for manager activities related to staffing,talent management, training and development. Coaches others to maximizeperformance and is responsible for performance development and review.

-Takes accountability for the team to ensures customerspecific documents, deliverables and account related information produced bythe team are accurate and support the customers quote/renewal strategy. Alsoensures accurate reporting of financials is maintained for the team

-Oversees training of underwriting staff and internalcustomers and external constituents. Provides opportunities to develop skillsand experiences.

-Understands business workflows of various departmentsincluding, but not limited to, sales, licensing and Call Center service reps.

-Makes sound underwriting decisions based on gathered data,established criteria, medical judgment and guidelines to assess risk.

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE desired:

-7+ years underwriting experience withextensive insurance industry knowledge. Solid knowledge of other benefitprogram(s) (Medical, Dental, Vision, Pharmacy, Stop Loss, Medicare, Voluntaryetc.) and pricing of related benefits.

-Demonstrates leadership thatfosters and supports a strong team of individual contributors.

-Experience in anticipatingcustomer needs and requirements as well as facilitating and negotiating usingtact and diplomacy.

-Experience in building strongcross-functional relationships with internal and external constituents.

-Demonstrates success incommunicating effectively with internal and external constituents.

-Stronganalytical, math aptitude, and organization skills, with superior criticalthinking and decision-making skills.

-Proven abilityto communicate using tact and diplomacy, underwriting requirements, rates anddecisions.

-Demonstrates astrong ability to anticipate customer needs and requirements.

EDUCATION

The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is aBachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
