This position is for an individual who will be a senior member of the actuarial team within Large Group Commercial Actuarial, whose primary responsibilities will be as follows:

  • Actuarial lead in providing support for our Public and Labor customers, both through individual efforts and through management of projects and team members,

  • Provide actuarial support and consultation for P&L business partners in Underwriting (U/W) and Sales in new business and renewal activities, in support of efforts to achieve business goals and to maintain financial integrity, and,

  • Provide some support to our National Account customers, involving pricing, rating tool and reserving responsibilities.

    Fundamental Components:

    Responsibilities for this individual vary widely, including:

  • Serve as the main actuarial contact for P&L segment U/W teams, including communicating key pricing decisions and leading initiatives to create and maintain tools to improve work efficiency,

  • Work on complex pricing assignments, usually at the customer level, including in support of Jumbo groups,

  • Lead projects and initiatives for P&L segment pricing decisions,

  • Represent actuarial area in P&L segment on cross-functional pricing projects, workgroups and discussions, and,

  • Manage and coach actuarial staff.


    Our ideal candidate is someone who's proficient at a number of different skill sets, both technical and non-technical, including:

  • Must have a Bachelor's degree and 6+ years of experience

  • Must have your ASA (Associate of the Society of Actuaries) preference in having your FSA (Fellow of the Society of Actuaries.

  • Above average medical product and/or group-level pricing experience, with advanced experience strongly preferred,

  • Demonstrated analytical skills,

  • Demonstrated technical expertise, including advanced business experience with Excel and ideally a strong familiarity with Access as well,

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal,

  • Ability and willingness to work with our partners (both within our organization and outside of it) and customers, including building relationships with and influencing them,

  • Experience and comfort with working in a highly matrixed environment, requiring qualities such as flexibility and adaptability,

  • Ability and willingness to work independently and to take leadership and ownership positions where appropriate, requiring a highly self-motivated individual,

  • Ideally have previous experience with underwriting pricing methodologies and principles, and,

  • Ideally have experience on Local Market Actuarial team(s) and/or knowledge of systems used by them.


    Actuarial/Associate of the Society of Actuaries is required

    Actuarial/Fellow, Society of Actuaries is desired
