Informatics Consultant / Lead - The Consumer Health and Services (CH&S) organization is dedicated to exploring and maximizing Big Data opportunities for Aetna. Fundamental Components:

Under general supervision, the fundamental components of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Utilize Business Intelligence (BI) tools such as Tableau and others to develop and perform analytics in response to business requests.

  • Support the goals of a Center of Excellence by providing guidance on using BI tools and applying best practices.

  • Investigates and evaluates the application of various BI solutions to most effectively meet business needs.

  • Act as the liaison between Business Stakeholders, Developers, Infrastructure teams and project management groups

  • Work in an agile environment and contribute to the improvement of our development processes

  • Work with the other groups such as Infrastructure, Networks, Web Application Development to design BI solutions for internal and external use

  • Implement process improvements (Automation, Performance tuning, Optimize workflows)

  • Strong SQL knowledge and ability to write most complex queries

  • Must have experience with several of the following: Java Script, LDAP, SQL, API Development, Hadoop and related tools (R, Python, Hive etc)

  • Strong knowledge of relational database management systems, normalized and denormalized structures, logical and physical modeling, physical database design, query optimization, data sourcing, data transformation, data loading, data cleansing, data shaping, indexing strategy

  • Detail-oriented with strong conceptual, analytical, problem solving, decision making and planning skills

  • Must have the ability to use utilize application, scripting and operating system commands to configure, debug, and monitor large scale production systems

  • Effective problem solving and analytical skills; excellent written and oral communication skills; and demonstrated ability to interact with technical, non-technical, and business members of the organization

  • Ability to accurately interpret business direction and clarify technology's alignment with stakeholder needs

  • Documents methods and specifications clearly; contributes to presentation of results, findings and conclusions to constituents.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve incidents

  • Manages personal resources efficiently to complete assigned projects accurately and on time.

  • Willing to learn new techniques, tools and approaches and in turn train others on these skills.

  • Participates in the development of project plans and timelines.

  • Responsible for commitments to quality and on-time deliverables.



  • 5+ years of relevant developer and analytic experience.

  • Qualified Certificate in Tableau Desktop and strong knowledge of other BI tools required.

  • Experience with Tableau Server is a plus

  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.

  • Able to present and train to various audiences.

  • Create and write training materials for visualizations

  • Able to lead development projects.
