Aetna Senior Accountant, Statutory Reporting in Hartford, Connecticut

Aetna is looking for an experienced accounting professional with strong attention to detail and communication skills to assist with the preparation, analysis, review, and filing of Aetnas statutory financial statements.

Fundamental Components:

Job responsibilities include the preparation and review of various statutory deliverables, including quarterly and annual statements, supplementary filings to the states or the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), and audited financial statements.

The candidate would be expected to perform analysis on entity financials to understand out-of-trend movements and work with various internal business partners to understand the underlying results.

The candidate will be expected to become a subject matter expert on their entities and the statutory accounting guidance applicable to those entities, and work across teams to suggest and implement process improvements.

The candidate will also be responsible for fulfilling requests and answering questions from state examiners, external auditors, and internal auditors.


The ideal candidate would have 4 or more years of relevant statutory accounting or reporting experience, but other strong non-statutory accounting, reporting and financial analysis experience would be considered. The ideal candidate would also have strong Excel skills, strong communication skills, and a track record in leading process improvements.


The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
