Position Description:Come join Aetna s growing Voluntary Group Supplement Benefits Underwriting Team as a Sr Underwriting Consultant. This role is focused on supporting the daily underwriting operations for Aetna Voluntary s group supplemental benefits portfolio (Accident, Critical Illness and Hospital Indemnity). S/He will independently perform accurate analysis and risk assessment to produce sound financial responses in a timely manner. The individual will join an outstanding team who provide superior service in support of writing and/or renewing group voluntary business and may include interaction with both internal and external constituents.

Fundamental Components:

  • Reports to the Director of Actuarial & Underwriting for Aetna Voluntary

  • Handles complex casework and issues autonomously using knowledge of Aetna's products/services and underwriting protocols

  • Independently assess risk factors, price appropriately for the risk, and establish competitive plan designs

  • Completes accurate financial analysis and risk assessment to evaluate specific strategic options and opportunities independently. Makes recommendations and suggests alternatives.

  • Independently negotiates and fully explains rate development, pricing components and application of underwriting policies while remaining conscious of financial objectives

  • Present the application of underwriting concepts and will be held accountable for decisions made on their accounts

  • Participates in project work groups including process improvement initiatives

  • Proactively communicates technical concepts to internal and external constituents

    BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE desired:· Minimum of 3-5 years of extensive group voluntary underwriting experience and market knowledge strong preferred (ie Accident, Critical Illness, Hospital Indemnity)· Minimum 3-5 yrs underwriting experience required· Proven ability to build strong cross-functional relationships with sales force and other internal organizations· Proven ability to facilitate and negotiate using tact and diplomacy EDUCATION

    The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

    Ideal location is Columbus, SC but will consider Hartford, CT, Philadelphia, PA, Jacksonville, FL and other offices locations along with potential telework.
