Aetna's Group Medicare team is seeking a Senior Informatics Consultant to lead business intelligence analytics based on clinical, claims, utilization and benefits data from multiple sources and support business needs. These activities require advanced technical, analytic and consultative skills, extensive knowledge of health care data and information systems to develop advanced analytic insights to drive new programs and initiatives to improve business outcomes. The position will work with a cross-functional team, delivering complex analytical projects, partnering with internal and external clients to improve engagement and impact of specific programs. The position will be responsible for extraction and manipulation of structured and unstructured data from multiple, large data sources, using advanced statistical techniques and software to develop predictive models and actionable analytic insights to inform business decisions. Position is open to our Hartford and Chicago locations.

Fundamental Components:

Performs applied statistical research and custom analysis of integrated healthcare data, interprets results

Makes recommendations about data collection methods, metrics definition and evaluation methods.

Creates and evaluates the data needs of assigned projects and assures the integrity of the data.

Defines and delivers analytical solutions in support of healthcare business initiatives that drive short and long term objectives

Presents solutions and analytics to internal and external customers and stakeholders.

Stays informed about Medicare industry trends, research findings and evaluation methods.

Under general direction, independently executes analyses or reports to meet project needs.

Responsible for project commitments to quality and on-time deliverables.

Ability to manage conflicting priorities and multiple projects concurrently and mentor other analysts

Contributes to a motivated work environment by working effectively to achieve common goals


Minimum 5-8 years total business experience

** 3 to 5 years experience strategy consulting or on analytical teams in large companies

** 2 years experience programming using R, Hadoop, or Python

** 3 years of business experience leading analyses and initiatives with track record of business impact.

** Healthcare sector, Medicare experience preferred

** Demonstrates proficiency in most areas of mathematical analysis methods, machine learning, statistical analyses, and predictive modeling and in-depth specialization in some areas. Experience in SAS or SQL or other programming languages.

** Strong knowledge of advanced analytics tools and languages to analyze large data sets from multiple data sources.

** Strong reporting skills and ability to build front end Dashboards using Tableau, Excel, Access, Word and/or PowerPoint.

** Knowledge of other reporting platforms such as: Business Objects, Microsoft Access, web development technology, big data analytics, data mining, Visual Basic.

** Experience in working in a data warehouse environment as well as the ability to work with large data sets from multiple data sources.

** Ability to communicate statistical and technical ideas and results to non-technical clients in written and verbal form.

** Demonstrates strong ability to communicate technical concepts and implications to business partners


The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Master's degree.
