The Underwriting Consultant will be part of our middle market (51+ – 3000 lives) Allina/Aetna Joint Venture team. This role, support Aetna's ability to achieve its financial and strategic goals through effective underwriting. The underwriting consultant performs underwriting analysis and risk assessment for new and/or renewal of large groups, will be assigned cases/books of business include multiple product types, funding arrangements and/or rating methodologies. S/He will be negotiating and explaining application of more complex underwriting concepts, rate/fee development and policies playing an intricate part of Aetna s business.
As an Underwriting Consultant, you will have the following responsibility:
Collaborating with Sales and Service partners, the Underwriting Consultant will work to help set strategies to balance the needs of the plan sponsor and Aetna.
Calculating complex renewal and prospective group rates using solid product knowledge and underwriting protocols. In addition, complete accurate financial analysis and risk assessment to evaluate specific strategic options and opportunities.
Anticipate customer needs, facilitate and negotiate using tact and diplomacy, and build strong cross-functional relationships with sales force and other internal organizations.
Other responsibilities may be assigned
Previous (3-5 years) experience in medical underwriting pricing methodologies and funding arrangements, strongly preferred in the 100-3000 lives.
Demonstrated strong analytical and independent thinking skills.
In-depth knowledge of rating and/or accounting and underwriting concepts and the ability to look at solutions creatively and strategically
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management.
The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Ideally candidate will be located near our Plymouth, MN office. Willing to consider flexible telework / office-based schedule after training is completed.
