Aetna Care Management Strategy Program Manager in New York, New York

The Program Manager independently manages projects to support the development and implementation of care management strategy. He or she works closely with the Chief of Staff to the VP of Care Management for Aetna.

Fundamental Components:

  • Designs and leads projects that support the roll out of a new, holistic, community based care management program and the transformation of care management programs and operations for all Aetna Medicare and Commercial Group members.

  • Works with the Head of Care Management Strategy to identify opportunities to optimize the performance of multiple clinical operations units and leads the implementation of strategic projects.

  • Works with the Snr. Director of Care Management Strategy to develop innovative new care management strategies and financial business cases.

  • Identifies stakeholders and subject matter experts in other Aetna departments, builds relationships and independently consults to understand interdependencies with care management.

  • Develops close working partnerships with clinical operations leadership across the Corporate Care Management organization.

  • Develops, maintains and presents project documentation such as strategy presentations, project charters and project plans.

  • Drafts communication material including developing presentations in MS PowerPoint on behalf of the Head of Strategy and VP of Care Management, often in short time frames.


  • Management Consulting background highly desirable.

  • Exposure to and understanding of population health concepts and strategies required.

  • Experience working within a managed care (health payer) organization required - experience may have been in a consulting capacity. Experience working within the care management function of a health payor highly desirable.

  • Working knowledge of Medicare Advantage operations desirable.

  • Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills required; must be comfortable managing relationships with senior stakeholders across departments in order to build trust, establish productive lines of communication and drive project outcomes without direct authority over involved parties.

  • Must be able to manage through ambiguity, flexing style and project approach as strategy and priorities shift.

  • Experience in designing, documenting and managing projects, on time and on budget with minimal day to day oversight required.

  • Masters degree in health administration, health economics, health policy or business administration (MBA) desired but not required.


    The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
