POSITION SUMMARY

Aetna's Data Science organization is focused on delivering strategically-impactful products to our internal customers, by building analytically-based solutions that integrate a wide range of internal and external large datasets within a cutting-edge Hadoop parallel-processing environment.

Aetna's Consumer Health Services Clinical Analytics Team creates innovative analytic tools to drive better and faster decision making within the organization.

We are currently looking for an exceptional Sr Data Scientist with a specialization in Visualization tools, reporting to the Director of Clinical Analytics – Population Health Tools, to develop population health visualizations and support clinical program initiatives via advanced analytics to optimize care management programs to improve health outcomes and reduce health care costs for Aetna consumers.

Leads and participates in the development, validation and delivery of visualization of health care metrics, algorithms, and program metrics.

Fundamental Components:

  • Collaborates with business partners to understand their problems and goals, develop statistical analysis, data reports and performance metrics.

  • Uses data visualization techniques to effectively communicate analytical results and support business decisions.

  • Plans, develops, and implements population health metrics visualizations using Tableau and other technologies to support clinical analytics and care management initiatives.

  • Develops and/or uses algorithms and statistical models and determines analytical approaches and modeling techniques to evaluate scenarios including planning pilot program designs and evaluations.

  • Performs analyses of structured and unstructured data to solve multiple and/or complex business problems utilizing advanced statistical techniques and mathematical analyses and broad knowledge of the organization and/or industry.

  • Develops and participates in presentations and consultations to existing and prospective constituents on analytics results and solutions.

  • Interacts with internal and external peers and managers to exchange complex information related to areas of specialization.

  • Use strong knowledge in algorithms and models to investigate problems, detect patterns and recommend solutions.

  • Use strong programming skills to explore, examine and interpret large volumes of data in various forms.

    BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE desired:

  • 5 or more years of progressively complex related experience.

  • Strong background in Tableau or similar BI design tool.

  • Proficient in SQL, Python, R, or HiveQL.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in most areas of visualization, data extraction and transformation, and mathematical analysis

  • Strong knowledge of advanced analytics tools and languages to analyze large data sets from multiple data sources.

  • Anticipates and prevents problems and roadblocks before they occur.

  • Demonstrates strong ability to communicate technical concepts and implications to business partners.

    EDUCATION

Bachelors degree required, Masters a plus.

The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Master's degree.
