The Underwriting Summer Associate Program serves as the pipeline for our Underwriting Training Program (UWTP) and Underwriting Leadership Development Program (ULDP), full-time positions after graduation. What are the goalsInterns will support the Underwriting teams in segments such as Territories, Public & Labor, National Accounts, Specialty and International. Scope may be limited to a single (or minimal number of) products, markets, financial arrangements and/or rating methodologies. This position involves technical work and application of underwriting, accounting and/or financial principles. Responsibilities include data analyses, reporting and rating functions. What you will do· Provide underwriting support for new business and/or renewals, accountings and/or specialized core functions.· Produce timely and accurate quotes, proposals, renewals and/or accountings.· Analyze input/outputs for reasonability (e.g., manual rates, benefit revisions, recorded claims, premiums, reserves, ECS charges, account structure, etc.).· Perform risk assessment functions as directed (e.g., claim determination and membership analysis) to set appropriate premium.· Utilize rating/financial tools, reference materials, prior carriers data and source systems for premium, membership and claim information.· Apply underwriting guidelines in qualifying risk of adding new members.· Request additional information as necessary and explains needs.· Identify and collect information critical to decision making. What you need· Strong math aptitude· Analytical, critical thinking and decision-making skills · Excellent communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex information in simplified terms· Ability to work in a fast paced, team environment and adaptability to changing priorities· Experience using Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel You are eligible if you· Are currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree (Risk Management, Economics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Finance, or related degree is preferred)· Have a 3.0+ major GPA (preferred)· Have an anticipated graduation date between December 2019 - June 2021· Have a willingness to relocate (if applicable)· Have an interest in a full-time position within the UWTP or ULDP upon graduation What we doAetna is about more than just doing a job.
