Timely and accurate creation of Plan Documents, Summary Plan Descriptions, amendments and Summaries of Benefits and Coverage for dissemination to Clients, Brokers & Stop Loss Carriers and for internal use. Research and amend documents in order to comply with legislative requirements, client requests, industry practices and organizational policy.


Prepare, reviews and/or edit summary plan descriptions and related documents according to pre-determined standards; ensures benefits are mapped accordingly and drafts all legislatively mandated documents requested by plan sponsors.

Translate complex benefit information, including non-standard plan language into crisp, compliant, easy-to-understand plan language for self-funded plans. This includes analyzing, drafting, editing and reviewing all legal and regulatory plan documentation (i.e., SPDs, plan amendments. SBCs and restates) for our self-funded plan customers.

Deliver high-quality documentation ensuring department standards are met with a focus on ensuring all errors in spelling, grammar and formatting are corrected before the document is sent to the customer.

Provides support with general benefit plan drafting issues with new and renewal clients; partners with other internal parties to effectively resolve case specific benefit/legislative issues, and/or other customer inquiries or benefit related matters.

Analyze and interpret previous carriers documents and other available resources in responding to both standard and non-standard benefit drafting requests; when appropriate, prepares language modifications to comply with regulatory requirements.

Executes thorough risk assessment of summary plan descriptions in order to avoid any unintended liability on the part of both the organization and the plan sponsor.

Maintain knowledge of State and Federal Mandates and internal procedures impacting self funded employee benefit plans to include Medical, Flex, Short Term Disability, Dental and Vision Plan Documents. Attention to ensuring the plan and company remain in compliance with federal and state law.

Compare plan documents with reinsurance contracts in order to identify and track any discrepancies and notify the appropriate personnel.


Extensive plan writing experience supporting self-funded or fully insured plans.

Effective time management, organizational and prioritization skills.

Strong attention to detail, precision and accuracy performing at high levels in a fast paced and constantly changing work environment. Have the ability to organize material according to set standard regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style and terminology

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, SharePoint and Outlook applications.

Comprehensive knowledge of group health insurance and employee benefits.

Excellent writing and problem solving skills.

Strong communication skills

Ability to handle multiple simultaneous projects efficiently and effectively


The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
