Sutter Health | Aetna is the result of a collaboration between Aetna and Sutter Health. The joint venture is the first of its kind in Northern California. Sutter Health l Aetna combines Sutter Healths high-quality, local doctors, hospitals and other care providers with Aetnas health plan experience, care management expertise, analytical insights and health information technology.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Operations is a critical member of the team who will support the goals of the Sutter Health | Aetna Joint Venture (SH|A) by working across a matrixed environment to recommend appropriate actions, strategies and alternatives to meet the needs of the business. This is a highly collaborative role which will leverage superior skills and effectiveness at managing relationships across the different business segments and functional areas of the parent companies.

In addition to managing operational delivery of the Joint Ventures products and services, the Director of Operations will also play a critical role in selecting, contracting and implementing differentiating capabilities, technologies and service offerings that will enhance the experience of SH|As employer customers and members. The Director of Operations will report to the CEO of the Joint Venture.

Fundamental Components:

With CEO, lead formulation, preparation and communication of strategic/operational business, financial and expense plans. Proactively lead complex projects to completion in a highly matrixed, cross-functional environment that requires partnership with multi-disciplinary resources from Sutter Health and Aetna.

Oversee joint operating committees, establish and maintain relationships across Sutter Health and Aetna organizations to support ongoing activities, operate as a liaison with company owners, and consult with constituents to scope and define projects/goals

Collaborate and partner with others to ensure workflow and interdependencies

Support development of and tracking to the Annual Operating Plan, identify gaps and make recommendations to cover them, and monitor and track progress and status of areas of responsibility; ensure that all deliverables and due dates are met

Drive performance results by identifying areas for improvement, influencing change, and developing new enhancements that support growth goals Support quarterly Board meetings

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE desired:

5-7 years of health system or health plan experience, with deep understanding of health plan products and operational knowledge (including claims and customer service) required.

5-7 years project management experience with proven track record of managing complex, cross-functional projects and or programs with a moderate to high degree of complexity, meeting project milestones, managing within budget guidelines, and managing relationships with internal and external customers

5-7 years relationship management experience with internal and external constituents, with proven ability to interact with, influence and collaborate with partners at all levels

Proven ability to interact with, influence and collaborate with clients at all levels

Experience managing matrixed staff with ability to leverage non-directs to complete tasks.

Proven track record managing complex projects and or programs that resulted in cost savings.

Knowledge of healthcare and insurance industry.

Good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to form strong client relationships.

EDUCATION

The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor s degree (or equivalent education/experience), ideally in a related field such as business, healthcare administration, or economics. A Master s degree in a related field is desired/preferred, including a Master s in Business Administration (MBA) or a Master s in Health Services Administration (MHSA).
