Summary/MissionPromotes and enforces compliance with state/federal, national and local laws and regulations and related-company policies (including the Aetna Code of Conduct) affecting Aetna businesses and encourages high business standards to advance company objectives, benefit the company's customers, employees and shareholders, and protect the company's reputation. Responsibilities include: auditing, investigating, training/education and enforcement ongoing consultation on compliance issues impacting businesses interfacing with industry groups and regulators on compliance with laws and regulators monitoring and reporting on adherence to compliance controls recommending and helping businesses to implement compliance controlsPosition Summary/MissionServes as legal adviser to the Aetna International Businesses ("AI") as part of the AI legal team. Delivers legal guidance and direction that reflects sound judgment, strategic vision and substantive legal knowledge and expertise with respect to AI's complex legal agenda. Contributes and has opinions beyond the boundaries of legal matters.Fundamental Components & Physical Requirements include but are not limited to (* denotes essential functions)· Provides support and advice with respect to legal issues arising across all of AI's businesses internationally, with a focus on the APAC region, where currently there are operations in Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Republic of Korea.· Works with AI's Lead Counsel for APAC to implement legal strategy that supports the achievement of business objectives.· Delivers business-focused legal consulting and support on commercial and government transactions to support organic growth.· Travels when required to support AI's business needs.· Exhibits the following Employee BehaviorsBackground/Experience Desired· Qualified Lawyer with approximately 0 to 4 years PQE.· Native (or fluent) in Mandarin. · Strong educational background.· International experience, and in one or more of the jurisdictions within the APAC region is preferred· Financial services experience preferred [but not essential] (ideally in insurance, or even health insurance). · Proven experience building relationships and working hand in hand with sales and service organizationsEducation and Certification RequirementsUniversity or college degree or higher with concentration in business and/or law Additional Information (situational competencies, skills, work location requirements, etc.)· Demonstrates strong technical skills, sharp intellect, and experience to resolve difficult, complex legal and business problems.· Devises effective, pragmatic and creative solutions to business and legal matters.· Effectively communicates at all levels of the organization.· Skilfully manages diverse personalities and relationships.· Demonstrates bias towards action and drive for results.· Is flexible and comfortable with ambiguity.· Confidently states an independent point of view.· Leads calmly through crisis or adverse circumstances.· Works collaboratively with the legal team and across business and staff functions; uses an open communication style.· Demonstrates global-mindedness and cultural sensitivity, patience and emotional intelligence in order to work effectively within Aetna s multicultural environment.
