Directs and coordinates the strategy and day-to-day execution of commercial marketing plans. Manages the activities of a marketing organization composed of multiple marketing teams focused on core commercial product as well as specialty product (dental, vision, voluntary, student health). Responsible for setting the marketing strategies, budgets, and go-to-market plans and then leading the execution of these plans for aligned markets. Has a deep understanding of business strategy & serves as the businesss strategic marketing advisor for commercial product. Is the primary liaison to the VPs of the core and specialty product lines.

Fundamental Components:

  • Responsible for the strategic leadership of identifying and developing opportunities that provide competitive advantage through marketing.

  • Drives the development of marketing strategies for accelerating growth and then determining the marketing budgets and plans to achieve them.

  • Has a deep understanding of the business strategy & serves as the businesss strategic marketing advisor.

  • Understands line of business strategies and goals and drives marketing campaigns to meet business objectives.

  • Provides leadership to a significant portion of a line of business and impacts the results of that line of business.

  • Sets priority and executes strategy for the line of business.

  • Owns the allocation of budgets for marketing and performance metrics linked to their clients goals (especially membership growth).

  • Leads development of appropriate, segmented value propositions and the assets that communicate them

  • Drives the design and execution of marketing campaigns to meet business objectives by understanding and aligning to the businesses strategy. Works with the VP of marketing to ensure all strategies, plans and executions are well coordinated across commercial so that the cumulative value is greater than the sum of the parts.

  • Works with the VP of Marketing to shape the line of business brand strategy to ensure it is in line with Aetna brand.

  • Develops a holistic view of targeted member segments & the member journey for use in supporting sales.

  • Designs and maintains an omni-channel customer experience.

  • Data- and results-driven marketer; expert in direct to consumer (DTC), business to business (B2B), or business to business to consumer (B2B2C) best practices in both digital and traditional direct channels.


    15+ years of experience, 7-10+ years of experience as SME.

    Strong strategic, critical thinking, and conceptual abilities; ability to lead strategic planning discussions.

    Ability to influence others and interact with all levels of the organization. Negotiating, influencing, and change management skills.

    Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including listening and ability to explain complex ideas and technologies, and writing and presenting formal presentations.

    Ability to work collaboratively through various department and functions. Promotes a culture of proactive teamwork.

    Experience managing both cross functional/matrix teams and teams of direct reports.

    Experience in program management and vendor management - Ability to coordinate activities, collectively set strategies and monitor progress.


    The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
